But how are military managers suitable for project management work? Surely the Institute isn’t suggesting that Tom Hanks in Saving Private Ryan, or the guys from Black Hawk Down, are ideal candidates to manage business projects? That is, the military’s strong reputation for providing schooling in the art of leadership and management.

The mere idea of thinking about your own style of thinking can be enough to give somebody a head-tilt and a thousand-mile stare. ‘Systems thinking’ can be a difficult concept to grasp entirely, as it challenges our traditional thinking which most of us have grown accustomed to. But, once understood, the concept of 'systems thinking' can become an effective approach for problem solving and decision-making.
